Biography

Dr. Alexander Hill joined the Department of History at the University of Calgary in 2004. His research is concerned primarily with Soviet military, naval and strategic history. He has written on the nature and military effectiveness of the Soviet partisan movement in north-west Russia 1941-1944, the development of the Soviet Northern Fleet 1937-1942, and more recently on the impact of Allied 'lend-lease' aid on the Soviet war effort during 1941-1942, and in particular the significance of British-supplied armour for the Red Army during the Battle of Moscow.
