The Strategic Studies Students' Consortium (S3C)

From L-R: Jalyn Callele, Keith Hickerson, Sam Finn, and Katelyn Stieva

The Strategic Studies Students Consortium (S3C) welcomes you to the University of Calgary and the Centre for Military, Security, and Strategic Studies (CMSS)! We are a tight and vibrant community focused on enhancing the academic experience of the students at the Centre and external guests alike.

While students at CMSS focus on a wide variety of research areas, the S3C Executive welcomes and strives to represent all students regardless of research interests, providing opportunities to participate in many academic and extracurricular activities over the course of the year. In addition, the Executive have a responsibility to attend monthly meetings held by the Graduate Student Association (GSA), representing the concerns and best interests of all students at CMSS.

For more information on the Student executive, please visit the Executive page.

In the past, one of the S3C's main activities is the organization of the annual student conference, focused on strategy, security, and defence. Traditionally, the conference has been multidisciplinary in scope, and aimed to stimulate discussion on a range of issues, both domestic and international. While these principles remain important parts of the vision that the S3C holds, the changing dynamics of academia in Canada have compelled this year's S3C Executive to reconsider the current structure of the conference. As such, the decision was made not to hold a conference in the 2017-2018 academic year, and instead focus on restructuring the conference to reflect the current academic goals outlined in the S3C Constitution and mirrored in the academic aims of CMSS. Our aim is to have a newly restructured conference ready for the 2018-2019 year.

If you have questions about the student life, applying, or any other queries best answered by a current CMSS student, please contact Jalyn Callele, Keith Hickerson, Sam Finn, or Katelyn Stieva. (using the contact information on the People page).
