Dr. John R. Ferris to Write GCHQ's First Authorized History

GCHQ, the organization in charge of the United Kingdom's signals intelligence efforts, has commissioned CMSS Senior Research Fellow Dr. John R. Ferris to write its first authorized history as part of its 100th anniversary.

Using still-classified documents from GCHQ's archives, Dr. Ferris will compile the most detailed work to date on GCHQ's history, scheduled to be published alongside the centenary commemorative activities in 2019. The work will cover the entire range of GCHQ's history, including its origins before the First World War, the famous Bletchley Park and Enigma period of the Second World War, and its evolution throughout and after the Cold War.
